What is a Sew In?

A sew-in is a type of hair extension installation where tracks/wefts of hair are sewn onto braided natural hair and/or a net, using a needle and thread.

How long does a sew-in last?

With proper care, a sew-in can last anywhere from six (6) to eight (8) weeks. Keeping it in too long can cause matting and breakage.

Will a sew-in damage my natural hair?

A properly installed and well-maintained sew-in will not damage your hair. However, improper braiding, excessive tension, or not taking care of your natural hair underneath can lead to breakage.

How should I prepare my hair before getting a sew-in?

We request that you remove any style prior to your appointment or book a "Take Down" service. We will wash, deep condition and blow dry your hair before your installation to ensure a clean and healthy foundation.

How long does it take to get a sew-in installed?

Depending on the style, a sew-in typically takes three (3) to four (4) hours to install.

What type of hair is best for a sew-in?

100% Virgin human hair is the best option for a natural look and longevity. We include 100% human hair with all of our installations. We do not accept any hair from any company other than our company, Picturesque Extension Bar.

How do I take care of my sew-in?

Wrap your hair with a with a silk or satin scarf at night. Properly detangle begging at the ends and moving up to the roots. Avoid excessive heat styling. Use a lightweight oil on the extensions. Wash and condition your sew-in every two (2) to three (3) weeks. Ensure your braid down is 100% dry.

Can I wash my sew-in?

Yes! You should wash your sew-in regularly using sulfate-free shampoo (included in your maintenance kit) and focusing on your scalp. Be sure to dry it thoroughly to prevent mildew.

How can I prevent my sew-in from getting frizzy or tangled?

Keep it moisturized, use minimal product, and detangle with a wide-tooth comb or paddle brush (included in your maintenance kit).

Can I get a sew-in with leave-out or a closure?

Yes! You can choose between a traditional sew-in with leave-out or a full sew-in with a closure or frontal for more of a protective style. Consult with your stylist to help you make the final decision.

Can I color my sew-in extensions?

Yes, if you have 100% human hair extensions, they can be colored. However, it is best to have a professional do it to avoid damage. We offer coloring services for your extensions for an additional fee.

Can I put my sew-in in a ponytail?

If installed correctly with a versatile method, you can style you sew-in in a ponytail or other updos. Your hair must also be a length where it can be put into a ponytail.
